The standing seams are laid flat 8 from the vertical wall folded 3 4 and secured with copper cleats spaced 12 o c. There are a couple of key types of flashing or trim that are used to seal each part of the metal roofing system. The most common flashing for standing seam roofing is the ridge cap which is used at the peak of a roof where two opposing roof slopes join and attaches to the roof with z flashing. Install zee closures onto panels at both sides.

Other flashings include gable trim which runs up the sloped ends of the roof and drip edge or eave trim. The continuous locking strip is soldered to the valley flashing. Whenever possible begin trim installation at the downwind end of the roof farthest away from the source of prevailing winds to allow flashing laps to face away from wind driven rain. Standing seam metal roof flashing details are installed at the intersections and terminations of the metal roofing system to seal the roof and prevent water from entering the roofing system.

Copper locking strips of the same weight as the flashing are soldered to the pans between seams at least 6 from the wall and engage the base flashing in a 3 4 lock. Install additional sections of hip ridge flashings with minimum 4 inch end laps and tube sealant at laps. Standing seam consists of sheet metal roofing panels joined side by side and attached to the roofing deck with concealed fasteners. Then fillet with one part polyurethane. The copper roofing laps the valley flashing a minimum of 6 and is folded and locked into a continuous copper locking strip. This detail shows a method of detailing a valley condition on a standing seam roof. The flashings and trims shown in this book are standard parts. The connecting point where the two separate metal panels meet forms a vertically pointed rib or a seam that is one inch to inch and a half high.

Locate round penetrations centrally in the panel seal with butyl tape beneath base. Apply a row of tube sealant along back face of zee closure adjacent to panel legs. Refer to the details in this book for the proper location of fasteners and sealants.
