Steel Roof Flashing Installation

Install the step flashing before running the first row of shingles install a piece of step flashing along the sidewall so that it sits tightly against the roof.

For exposed fasteners avoid over tightening the fastener. Be sure the larger edge is laid so that the small edge of the next panel will overlap it. Align the first metal roofing panel so that it overlaps the edging by 1 2 to 3 4 of an inch and is square to the roof. It s very important to make sure that you grab the z channel that s below and make sure that you re in the outside leg of the z channel.

I m going to install one between each panel directly in the center. Ensure it sits flat and extends at least 8 inches above the shingles. Use your neoprene washer head screws to secure the metal to the sheathing. This is not a complete install only basic install on a bungalow i.

Install the roofing screws vertically along each rib in the panel. With the end wall flashing in place i use stitch screws to attach it to the z trim and to the gable trim. You can use 1 inch nails for the installation of eave flashing. It should match the eave drip that extends along the drip edge of the roof.

Make sure that the screws are all aligned evenly as you will be able to see them from the ground if they are. Space the screws about 12 in 30 cm apart. Figure 10 gable flashing is used to trim the edge of the roofing panel at the gable end of the roof. In this video i m installing some metal roofing over an existing ash fault shingled roof.

Bend it back so that it overlaps the corner flashing. Next you are ready to install the metal roof. If the panel is allowed to hang over the gable end eave drip can be used instead. Nail it in place with two nails one.

Align the step flashing with the leading edge of the starter course and nail it in place using one nail in the upper corner. You are essentially sealing off the metal roof with this flashing and you need to make sure that is securely fastened. Place the first screw. Butyl tape between the trim and panel eliminates leaks.

Dealing with dips and making clean overlaps metal drip edge flashing is installed on the perimeter of a roof to direct water away from the fascia into the gutters and to keep wind blown rain image. I ll make sure to use tape seal in between the flashing and the top of the z and we ll use pop rivets for a concealed fastener installation. Then set the piece down. The eave flashing or edging is just the steel metal strips used to cover the entire perimeter of the roof.
