This rule refers to the proper height of the chimney pipe above the roof. The chimney must extend at least 3 above the highest point where it passes through a roof. Vii the chimney shall extend at least three feet above the part of the roof through which it passes and at least two feet above the highest elevation of any part of the manufactured home within 10 feet of the chimney. The top of a chimney pipe must extend at least 2 feet above the peak of the roof if the pipe is within 10 feet of the peak.

For gas vents or a type l vent this distance above the roof surface must be at least 2 ft 0 61m. Explained the chimney pipe must be a minimum of three feet above the roof but also two feet taller than anything within ten feet. They intend to make sure that the chimney draws properly and that a fire hazard does not occur. If you ve been researching class a chimney pipes you ve probably heard of the 3 2 10 foot rule numerous times.

You can leave solid pack chimneys exposed and braced. If there is a steep roof or nearby obstruction the chimney will need more length above the roof to meet code. The top of the chimney should be at least 3 ft 0 92 m above the roof surface. It means any pipe penetrating a roof must be three feet above the roof line on the up slope side of the penetration.

Hopefully this will be enough. If the pipe is farther than 10 feet from the roof peak it must be 2. And at least 2 higher than any portion of a building within 10. 3 feet out the roof unless the stack is within 10 feet of the ridge then 2 feet is the minimum.

Specifications aren t there to merely cause you problems. The termination cap is installed above this point. The chimney must extend at least 3 feet above the highest point where it passes through the roof and be at least 2 foot higher than any part of the building within a horizontal distance of 10 feet figure 2. This will bring the total height of the pipe not including the cap to 85 inches.

Most wood stove and factory built fireplace manufacturers and local building codes will require that the chimney must extend at least 2 feet above any portion of any structure within 10 feet measured horizontally and must extend at least 3 feet above the highest point of its roof penetration. Determine the number of chimney pipe lengths required. This specification makes sure steep roof slopes are cleared. In the photo below you can see where the braces currently attach 41 inches above the collar.

Currently the pipe is 6 inches above the roof peak.
